I mentioned that I was working on my boat in the shop thread. I have been making progress and decided it was time to post up some pictures. I replaced all th wooden frame with 1.5" box tubing that is welded directly to the boat ribs. The floor is .100 aluminum sheet. Where the seats are mounted I ran 1.5" angle between the box tubing. The pin bases for the kids seat have the holes drilled and tapped for attachment.

I didnt like the idea of mounting the front seat on a 1.5" aluminum tube since eventually this will be the driver's seat. I didnt think it would end up real well if I was sitting in the seat and hit something at speed. I could just see the pin snapping off and me ending up in the river. To solve this I built a riser for the front seat out of the 1.5" aluminum angle. The holes under the riser drilled through the floor were to give me access to the angle underneath. The mounting bolts for the riser are not tapped, they have nuts under the floor.

I wanted so more storage for things like tackle boxes, life jackets, anchors, etc so I framed out an area in front of the front seat that is basically an extension of the front back. It will get skined with more of the .100 aluminum and have a lid on top. You can see the skin for on the front is started but not completely done, I realized it was 1am this morning when I got this far and decided I should quit for the night.

I also have the trolling motor mount more or less done. Needs a little bit yet and then welded to the front deck. I couldnt resist breaking out my dimple dies on this. Going to have to find some more places to use dimple dies on this project. I love dimple dies.

Do you have the ability to weld alum bungs into a alum manifold with the setup you have? I'm thinking of making my own TPI setup for the 304.

Will my setup do it, yes I think it will. Do I think I am good enough with it to do it, no I don't, I don't have the much experience with welding aluminum yet. I only got the spool gun set up and working about a month ago and still have alot to learn. I hadnt welded aluminum in years and it shows. I would hate to destroy your manifold and it would probably be better to TIG weld something like that. The heat is more controlled with a TIG welder. I would hate to warp your manifold.

That is true. I have a guy in town that is a master welder and did some nice work on the alum bed of my rollback. Stacked some dimes better than I could literally stack dimes. I'll probably talk to him when I'm ready.

Looking good!
I have a Syncrowave 250DX, but it has been awhile since I've done any aluminum.  Would have to work to get my "hand" back at it.

Took the boat yesterday. The engine is having some issues....probably bad gas, I will need to drain the tain and refill it. I didnt have my fishing rods with me but other than that they boat was completely packed for a regualr day on the water, there was NOTHING on the floor. The storage front and rear made a huge difference,. Had the kids out for a short ride but it was really hot and they were not happy with the lift jackets so we cut it really short. I am really happry with how it turned out so far. Still have work to do but it is useable. I hope to have some updated picture tomorrow, I just didn't have the time last night.

we will see how it goes....I bought 5 more life jackets yesterday....a couple of different styles, too see if there is any they are OK with. They may still be a little young for the whole life jacket thing.

I will end up taking back whichever life jackets they hate the most.

Well took the boat to camp over the weekend and it was not a good. The engine would not start. I drained the tank and added fresh fuel before the trip, along with mix oil and Marine Stabil ethanol treatment. I could not get it to start, what a disappointment. I have fuel, I have spark, but it wouldnt even try. I did find some worn spark plug wires but was still getting spark in both cylinders. Downside to me trying to fix this is 1. I have very little experience with 2 stroke engines and 2. because this is a jet motor it MUST be run in water, the typical water connection to run prop motors out of water does not work, even the marina I spoke with have to run them in the water. The test tanks they have do not work for Jet outboards. I would need to take the boat and put it in the water every time I wanted to test the motor. I just do not have that kind of time right now. The boat is going to LakeSide Marine tomorrow. They are going to rebuild the carbs, replace the plug wires, and the reeds if needed and get this thing running. I am trying to decide if I am going to have them put electric start on the motor while they have it to save me time. Not sure how long the boat will be out but I will use the time with the empty shop to get everything cleaned up and star tworking on the CNC table that has been sitting in my shop for months and driving me crazy.

One way we found to work on my boat while out of the water was to get an old 55 gallon drum and just dunk the motor in that when you want to start it. This has worked rather well for us.

I have done that with a prop motor but sonce this is a Jet it will blow all of the water out of the tank. Even a marine shop doesnt have a test tank that will work for Jet outboard.

OK got the boat back today, Carb rebuilt, spark plug wires replaced, and fuel filter cleaned out. Hope to run it on Sunday but with the race tomorrow I am not sure if that will happen. It still needs some work to be "complete" but it will have to wait. It is useable and I have other projects to work on. I want the CNC table up and running before I get back to the boat.

Took the boat out yesterday finally. Started on the second pull and pretty much on the first pull after that. It seems faster than even last fall when I thought it was running great. I have a slight caviation issue with the jet pump that is not related to the other problem I was having. Probably caused by the location of the drain plug in the boat. The plug is located right in front of the jet pickup and disrupting the flow of water to the impeller. My brother, who is much more boat savy than I am, has a few ideas to fix this. One includes moving the drain plug and the other involved some fins on the jet, going to start with the fins. It was a great feeling finally having this out on the water.
