I will be riding shotgun for Otter. I have collected all of the safety gear I need and managed to pick up a set of goggles that are set up for tear offs and a package of replacement tearoffs. If you are up at the race I will see you there, Sarah and the kids may be there as well.

All I can say is wow, wow, wow. Rock crawling really can't compare to running a single track through the woods with the throttle pinned in high gear and the motor screaming for an adrenaline rush.

Our first lap was not so good, something was slipping in the driveline but we couldnt figure out what, decided to limp it back to the pits and call it a day. Before we got to the pits the problem showed itself, the nut on the yoke on the rear output back off and the yoke fell off. Luckily Otter found the nut and washer and the skid plate. He beat the yoke back on and bolted everything back together and then it was game on.

Ran the rest of the race without incident other than we had no high range. Didnt seem to make much difference with the NorthStar and a lot of people who saw us couldnt believe we were in low range. Otter had that thing pinned in anything that resembled a go fast section. I must say, he can drive, more than once I thought we were going to loose it around a corner, but he just whipped it back into shape and away we went.

We made all 5 laps with a little time to spare on the 5 hour time limit. Our first lap was probably close to 2 hours with the issues. Lap time havent been posted so i can't say for sure. We ended up 11th place out of 22 starters. Only 12 of those 22 even managed to finish.

After today I know two things, I really want to do this in my buggy and be the driver and my buggy is no where near being ready for this.

Dean, post pics when you get a chance.

Today was definitely the most fun I have even had in competition motorsports, without question. Best way to describe it is imagine the rush you get when you conquer a big obstacle, now imagine that rush for hours at a time, yeah that good.

Kris,

It sounds like you really, really enjoyed yourself! I was really tempted to go watch, but where can a spectator "park" himself/herself in order to observe anything more than a very short section of the track? (You've got to keep in mind that these 64 year old knees are not too mobile any longer. Especially over uneven terrain.)

Ed, there are usually a few spots you can drive to and spectate from if you check with people (like myself) who know the park, the trails and the course layout. there were three really good spots you could watch without having to walk more than 50 yards from where you could park. not sure if it will be that way EVERY time, but usually there are designated "spectator areas" that are worked in.

Lap times posted. Our first lap was a little over 2 hours. After that if you figure it took 5 minutes to fuel the truck on lap 3 Otter ran the last 4 laps with lap time within 1 minute of each other. 36-37 minutes per lap, his consistancy was amazing. Placed 11th out of 22 trucks, however only 12 finished the race. If we would have run the first lap on par with the last 4 it would have put us around 7th, of course we had the benefit of having clear air after our 2 hour first lap, many were out, and some were finishing the race before we finished our 2nd lap, so who knows how it would have turned out.
